  • Job Description

    Illinois Marine Towing Deckhands work on our fleet of Inland Towing and Fleeting Vessels. There is excellent opportunity for advancement, and extensive training is provided.

     

    Qualified candidates must be safety-conscious and able to work in a physically demanding environment. The work schedule consists of 21 days on and 21 days off, working 12 hour shifts. All applicants must have favorable work references and must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

     

    Primary Job Duties

    • Handle lines and wires
    • Make and break tow
    • Maintain barges in tow
    • Maintain cleanliness of the vessel and tow
    • Inspect equipment
    • Chip and paint decks and superstructure of the vessel

     

    Physical Requirements

    Physical requirements of the job include climbing ladders and stairs, repetitive bending and stooping, lifting heavy marine equipment, and lifting objects from various levels ranging from 10-100 pounds. Be able to work outside in weather such as rain, snow, and very hot and cold temperatures.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    Candidates must:

    • Possess a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Demonstrate the ability to employ all safety practices and manage risk.
    • Have strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
    • Be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
