Illinois Marine Towing, a fast growing barge transport company specializing in barge towing, fleeting operations, and shipyard services, has an opportunity for a full-time general laborers in our Barge Cleaning division. 


We are currently looking for reliable, hardworking individuals to carry out the operations of cleaning barges while maintaining a safe and productive atmosphere.


Primary Job Duties:

 

  • Individual will perform all aspects of barge cleaning work including prepare/check equipment, enter and exit barges, use cleaning equipment.
  • Utilize hand tools such as pressure washers or brushes to effectively clean the barges.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment that complies with environmental guidelines and policies.
  • Stay compliant with all regulatory bodies as it applies to the work that is being completed and with all safety rules and policies.
  • Utilize proper PPE while cleaning barges
  • Perform other duties as required and directed by management
  • Carry out the Business Philosophy, Code of Conduct, and mission of Illinois Marine Towing, Inc.
  • This position may involve travel to multiple locations.

Experience & Education:

  • Familiarization with pumps, compressors, gauges and tanks a plus.
  • High school education or equivalent require.

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements of the job including climbing ladders and stairs, repetitive bending and stooping, lifting heavy marine equipment, and lifting objects from various levels ranging from 10-100 pounds.  Ability to work outdoors in all elements during all seasons. 

Lemont

I.     BASIC FUNCTION

 

To supervise and participate, where needed, to ensure that all crew changes are planned and executed to keep our fleet fully staffed in the most efficient and cost effective manner. To recommend innovative changes to enhance the performance of the Crew Dispatch function.

 

II.     MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversight to ensure vessels are adequately manned based on operational needs.
  2. Co-Develop and administer deckhand advancement/Steersman development programs.
  3. Assist in the development of skills, leadership, and professional training of crew and licensed mariners.
  4. Establish and maintain positive employee relations and communications with entire workforce.
  5. Provide assistance to crew members seeking guidance with licensing, either new or for upgrades.
  6. Responsible for ensuring the most efficient and appropriate means of transportation are utilized for all crew changes.
  7. Oversee execution of payroll to ensure accuracy of all payments to vessel employees.
  8. Manage and participate in on-call rotation.
  9. Coordinate timely approval and payment of all employee expense reports and invoices due.
  10. Provide input and suggestions to enhance operating efficiencies.
  11. Manage the Crew Dispatch team to achieve the internal standards of professionalism, efficiency and flexibility.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  13. Carryout the Business Philosophy, Code of Conduct & Mission of Canal Barge Company, Inc. and Illinois Marine Towing.

III.     ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

  1. The Crewing Supervisor is appointed by and reports to the Marine Superintendent.  
  2.  All Crewing Coordinators report to the Crewing Supervisor

IV.     EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  1. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with experience in related field; Associates degree preferred
  2. Excellent communication skills
  3. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  4. Maritime experience preferred
  5. Excellent Computer Skills
Lemont

Illinois Marine Towing Deckhands work on our fleet of Inland Towing and Fleeting Vessels. There is excellent opportunity for advancement, and extensive training is provided.

 

Qualified candidates must be safety-conscious and able to work in a physically demanding environment. The work schedule consists of 21 days on and 21 days off, working 12 hour shifts. All applicants must have favorable work references and must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

 

Primary Job Duties

  • Handle lines and wires
  • Make and break tow
  • Maintain barges in tow
  • Maintain cleanliness of the vessel and tow
  • Inspect equipment
  • Chip and paint decks and superstructure of the vessel

1.     Performing all aspects of liquid barge cleaning work including prepare/check equipment, enter and exit barges, use cleaning equipment.

2.     Utilize hand tools such as pressure washers, mechanical spinners, or brushes to effectively clean the tank barges.

3.     Maintain a clean and safe working environment that complies with environmental guidelines and policies.

4.     Stay compliant with all regulatory bodies as it applies to the work that is being completed and with all safety rules and policies.

5.     Utilize proper PPE while cleaning tank barges.

6.     Perform other duties as required and directed by management.

7.     Carry out the Business Philosophy, Code of Conduct, and mission of Canal Barge Company, Inc.

8.     This position may involve travel to multiple locations.

Lemont Shipyard

Illinois Marine Towing Welder is responsible for all aspects of welding work.

Qualified candidates must be safety conscious and able to work in a physically demanding environment. All applicants must have favorable work references and a valid driver's license, and must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

Welders must be able to obtain a valid TWIC.

The main geographic targets for applicants include Lemont, Channahon and the Chicagoland area.

 

Primary Job Duties

  • Performing all aspects of welding work including prepare/check equipment.
  • Welding of steel barges and ships.
  • Stick welding-6010, 7018 and 7024.
  • Safely operate heavy equipment and follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other jobs within the shipyard as required to assist in meeting business demands.
  • Staying compliant with all regulatory bodies as it applies to the work that is being completed and with all safety rules and policies.
