Illinois Marine Towing Deckhands work on our fleet of Inland Towing and Fleeting Vessels. There is excellent opportunity for advancement, and extensive training is provided.

 

Qualified candidates must be safety-conscious and able to work in a physically demanding environment. The work schedule consists of 21 days on and 21 days off, with travel reimbursement. Shipyard – Barge Mechanic

I. BASIC FUNCTION

Maintain and repair engines and equipment onboard tank barges as assigned and ensure they are suitable for their intended service.

 

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Perform preventive and routine repair & maintenance on barge machinery/equipment ranging from oil changes to engine overhauls.
2. Troubleshoot equipment/engine problems and provide on-site service and repair.
3. Provide non-routine maintenance onboard barges as needed.
4. Performs other duties as required to include barge product transfers, cleanings, etc.
5. This position requires the ability to work an on-call schedule. May not take vacation during assigned on-call schedule without formal approval from the Liquid Barge Operations Manager.
6. This position may involve travel to multiple locations.
7. Perform other duties as required and directed by management.

III. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to the Liquid Barge Operations Manager.

 

IV. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• Minimum high school education or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years of experience in repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting machinery and equipment.
• Knowledge of tank barge systems preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical systems.
• Familiarity with applicable code of federal regulations.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and follow instruction.

Lemont Shipyard

Illinois Marine Towing, a fast growing barge transport company specializing in barge towing, fleeting operations, and shipyard services, has an opportunity for a full-time general laborers in our Barge Cleaning division. 


We are currently looking for reliable, hardworking individuals to carry out the operations of cleaning barges while maintaining a safe and productive atmosphere.


Primary Job Duties:

Canal Barge Company Shore Tankerman are our internal experts in the transfer of liquid cargos.

 

Qualified candidates must be safety conscious and able to work in a physically demanding environment. Shore Tankerman must be on-call and be able to travel independently. All applicants must have favorable work references and a valid driver's license, and must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

 

Tankermen must hold a U.S. Merchant Mariner's endorsement as a PIC/DL, and must possess a current, valid TWIC.

  • Conduct transfers of liquid cargos
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and barge processes to conduct incident-free transfers

Job Description

Part-Time Chemist II

Gas Chromatography (GC)/Mass Spectroscopy (MS) Environemental Chemist

 

The Chemist II position is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position based in Channahon, IL. Primary function is performing specified analytical and instrumental testing of water and wastewater, soil, solid waste and raw material samples.  Must have the ability to evaluate, set-up and test new methods and procedures as required by new customers or products. Must perform required QA testing in accordance with the method requirements. Must be familiar with Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wasewater 21st edition, SW 846 for the Analysis of Solid Waste, and relevant ASTM procedures.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs routine testing for both environmental and raw material samples including but not limited to:
    1. pH
    2. Chlorides
    3. Specific gravity
    4. Color
    5. Water
  2. Must know how to operate Purge and Trap (P/T) instruments and P/T auto samplers and GC auto samplers.
  3. Must have experince with operating software associated with all chromatography equipment.
  4. Must be very knowledgeable of environmental sampling, testing, and reporting requirements for water, wasewater and solid waste analysis.
  5. Must be able to handle complex sample matrics and be able to determine how to overcome the matrix interferences.
  6. Must be able to set-up and/or develop new chromatography testing methods using FID, PID, NPD and ECD detections.
  7. Must be able to interpret, evaluate, and validate the analytical results from the various chromatography procedures.
  8. Must understand the customer and product base with regard to deadlines , permit requirements, and sample peculiarities.
  9. Must know various extraction, sample clean up procedures, surrogate and inernal sandard requirements.
  10. Must be very observant in evaluating unsual samples and sample marices to determine how to handle difficult samples or to seek help when necessary to solve the problem at hand.
  11. Comply with CTC HSSE Policies and Procedures.
  12. Work to improve productivity of laboratory methodology and assist in preparing or amending written laboratory protocol and procedures for methods associated with chromatography.
  13. provide routine maintenance to equipment and instrumentation as needed.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager or Chief Chemist.

Experience/Education:

1. Must possess at a minimum a bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related science.

2. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills and be able to work independently without constant supervision.

3. Must have a minimum of 20 years of chromatography testing experience.

4. Must be cooperative and work well with other staff; be a team player.

5. Prior experience in a multi-functioning industry or commercial laboratory preferred.

6. Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.

7. Must be able to multitask in a very demanding and fast-paced environment.

8. Must be able to write and amend current or new laboratory procedures

 

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements of the job include standing for long periods of time, carrying and transferring products.  May be required to perform off-site sampling and testing under all types of weather conditions and over unusual terrains. May be required to carry sampling equipment over long distances.

Illinois Marine Towing Welder is responsible for all aspects of welding work.

Qualified candidates must be safety conscious and able to work in a physically demanding environment. All applicants must have favorable work references and a valid driver's license, and must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

Welders must be able to obtain a valid TWIC.

The main geographic targets for applicants include Lemont, Channahon and the Chicagoland area.

  • Welding of steel barges and ships.
  • Stick welding-6010, 7018 and 7024.
  • Safely operate heavy equipment and follow all safety policies and procedures.

Illinois Marine Towing vessel Captains work on our fleet of Inland Towing Vessels. Extensive orientation and training is provided; all Captains must possess a current U.S. Coast Guard license for Master (Pilot) of Towing Vessels that is required for the vessel, route and service.

 

Qualified candidates must be safety conscious and able to work in a physically demanding environment. Captains are required to work onboard for a multi-week hitch.  The work schedule consists of 21 days on and 21 days off. All applicants must have favorable work references and a valid driver's license, and must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

  • Navigate the vessel and tow safely and efficiently while on watch
  • Supervise crew members and ensure that they are properly trained to perform their job duties safely
